Community

In an effort to shape a healthier future for the community, the township of East Brunswick has designated October as "Family Fitness" month. To support this initiative, the Raritan Valley Road Runners in conjunction with the East Brunswick Department of Recreation & Community Services are hosting these races.

Community Involvement

This unique small town event was established in 1978 to help promote fitness and lend support to local non-profit organizations. In 2007 we anticipate over 450 runners to race through the tree-lined neighborhoods of East Brunswick.

Non-runners and families can also enjoy the festivities by entering the 1-mile fun run/fitness walk. Our Pumpkin Dashes for children ages 2-10 round out the day with over 75 smiling kids running around the baseball fields.

These races are part of the Brunswick Cup series, and proceeds benefit Camp Daisy.

Race Goals and Benefits

The goals and benefits of the John Ragone 5k and East Brunswick 10k races are...

1. To enhance and develop the sport of distance running.
2. To benefit our local community.
3. To motivate individuals to set personal accomplishment goals.
4. To be a catalyst for personal fitness and a healthy lifestyle.

Training Program

The East Brunswick Road Race committee has partnered with the East Brunswick elementary schools to implement a 4-week training program to motivate children to safely run/walk a mile in preparation for the East Brunswick 1-mile fun run. The schools will also be teaching the importance of proper nutrition and healthy eating habits during this period. The aim of this program is to promote confidence and encourage a healthy lifestyle.

If you would like to get involved in the training program please send an e-mail to ebrrinc@gmail.com or call us at 848.391.0200 to join.
